# KDP Autopilot

> A Claude Code skill that takes you from an idea to a submitted Amazon KDP title without learning KDP first. ## What it does

1. **Setup**: a guided first run. Disclaimer, studio folder, pen names, Gemini key (you paste it into a local `.env`), KDP account check, and a free offline test build.
2. **Niche research**: reads the Best Sellers Rank, reviews and price of the top organic Amazon results for about 15 candidate niches, converts rank into estimated monthly sales, and picks niches where new books sell. It runs at human pace and stops at the first CAPTCHA.
3. **Build**: generates line art with Google Gemini through the batch API, cleans it to pure black and white, rejects frames, stray text, gray fills, broken anatomy and near-duplicates, regenerates rejects once, then builds `interior.pdf`, a full-wrap `cover.pdf` and `listing.md`, and runs QA.
4. **Publish**: fills in every KDP page in your Chrome (details, categories, 7 keywords, free ISBN, trim, uploads, the AI-content questions, previewer, pricing), then A+ Content images and Author Central. It never ticks a legal declaration or clicks Publish without your explicit yes.
5. **Weekly cycle**: research, build and QA up to six books a week; publishing always waits for you.

A weekly spend cap (default $1.50) stops image generation before it goes further.

## KDP details it handles

Trim sizes and margins, spine width from page count and paper, the full-wrap cover with a clear barcode box, the free KDP ISBN, the AI-content disclosure, categories, keywords under 50 characters, royalty math (a $9.99 coloring book earns about $3.15 per copy), and KDP's weekly limit on new titles per format.

## A real session

Request: "Make a kids' coloring book about ocean animals for ages 4 to 8 and get it ready to publish on KDP."

Result: Ocean Friends Coloring Book, 30 drawings, 64 pages. One Gemini batch returned all 30 images in about four minutes. Three pages had a stray dot that would have printed; they were rejected and regenerated once, and the new versions were clean. QA passed. Total image cost $0.68.

## Requirements

- Claude Code (Pro or Max) with the Claude in Chrome extension
- uv (Python 3.12+) and poppler (`pdftoppm`)
- Your own Google Gemini API key with billing enabled
- A free Amazon KDP account
- macOS or Linux. The optional unattended weekly schedule uses macOS launchd.

## Limits

No income claims: sales estimates come from public rank data through an approximate formula, and many books sell little. Amazon decides what stays live, and you are responsible for what you publish.
